Plan And Go On A Winter Walk

  • Warm clothing
  • Suitable footwear
  • Rucksack
  • Water bottle
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Compass (this could be on your smartphone)
  • Snacks
  • Map (this could be on your smartphone)

  1. Check the weather for your area or where you are planning to walk
  2. Plan your route, making sure you use OS maps if your walk includes sections that are not along a road
  3. You can access online OS maps on their website
  4. We do not recommend walking on your own, however if you do please make sure someone knows where you are planning to walk
  5. Set off on your walk, making sure you set off early enough that you can complete your walk in daylight
  6. Keep track on your map of where you are on your walk
  7. If you see animals, make sure you give them plenty of space
  8. Ensure you stick to public footpaths
  9. If you get to a gate that is closed then make sure it is securely closed after going through it
