  • Embroidery Thread or wool
  • Scissors
  • Clipboard or Safety pin

  1. Choose your embroidery thread or wool
  2. Decide on how many strands you want to use for your bracelet
  3. For this tutorial we have used 6 (for a 3 colour bracelet use 2 strands of each colour)
  4. To measure the length of each strand, hold the end of the thread between your thumb and first finger and wrap it around your wrist 3 times and place the end between your fingers
  5. Do this for each strand
  6. Tie a knot and separate your strands
  7. Split the colours into 3 sections and plait the strands
  8. Place a knot at the bottom of the plait - this forms the tie of the bracelet
  9. Clip the bracelet to your clipboard or use a safety pin and attached to a cushion
  10. Separate your strands by colours, this will give your finished bracelet 2 rows of each colour
  11. Starting the bracelet can be tricky, but let's go…
  12. Take the first strand (completely to the left) and make a "four (4)" over the second one
  13. To make the knots pass the first strand under the second, like if tying a knot, and pull on the first one upwards while holding the second one down
  14. There are pictures that really show how to do it (step 8-9)
  15. Make sure you repeat this step twice – each knot is done twice on each strand
  16. Your knotting strand should now be in position 2, repeat the same knotting on your next strand until your knotting strand is at the end of the row – you should have knotted along 5 strands by this point
  17. Make sure when you do your knots, you pull the knotting strand tight, and pull it firmly down
  18. It’s time to start your second row
  19. Take the strand on the left (this should be the same colours and the row you have just done) and repeat the knotting until this is at the end of the row (far right)
  20. Row 3 and 4 should be your next colours – repeat the process again
  21. Row 5 & 6 will be your next colours – repeat the knotting again
  22. You should now have 6 rows, two of each colour – your bracelet is starting to form
  23. Continue knotting until your bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist
  24. Tie a knot at the end of your rows
  25. Plait your remaining strands like you did at the beginning and place a knot at the end
  26. Snip off any remaining threads
  27. VOILA – You now have your very own friendship bracelet
  28. If you want, you can add little charms to your bracelet like these cute little Flur De Lis which we found on eBay! Why not make another one and give to one of your friends!
