RAF - Whirlybird Challenge

  • A4 piece of paper
  • Rule
  • Scissors
  • Pen
  • Paper Clip

  1. Draw a rectangle 20cmx10cm
  2. Cut out the rectangle
  3. Fold in half, length ways
  4. Open up
  5. Mark with the pen on the fold
  6. Draw a line down the center of the top ‘square’
  7. Draw a ‘T’ shape in the bottom square of the rectangle – solid lines for the vertical lines and dotted for the horizontal ones
  8. Cut along your dotted lines in the bottom square
  9. Cut down the line in the top square
  10. Fold bottom flaps in and on top of each other
  11. Attached the paperclip over the folded flaps
  12. Fold down one of the vertical flaps towards you
  13. Fold down one of the vertical flaps away from you
  14. Your now ready to fly your whirlybird! Find somewhere at height, safely, to drop it from!
  15. Now how about making some adjustments of your own to the design to see if you can make it fly even better?
